#Usnews 6 takeaways from Democrats' Bloomberg pile-on in Nevada By Eric Bradner, Dan Merica and Gregory Krieg, CNN Updated 1 hour ago Feb 20, 2020 Las Vegas, Nevada (CNN) - Michael Bloomberg's billions got him onto the debate stage -- but did nothing to spare him from the barrage he faced Wednesday night here in Las Vegas. In the most fiery and contentious Democratic primary debate yet, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren led a non-stop barrage against the former New York City mayor who was appearing on stage for the first time. She kicked it off by calling him an "arrogant billionaire" who "calls women fat broads and horse faced lesbians." Then everyone else jumped in. Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar accused Bloomberg of "hiding behind his TV ads." Former Vice President Joe Biden hammered him for opposing Obamacare. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders attacked Bloomberg's support for stop-and-frisk policing in his first answer of the night. Forme...

Bernie Sanders to confront billionaire Michael Bloomberg on debate stage after years of railing against money in politics By Maeve Reston, CNN Updated Feb 20, 2020 (CNN) - Democratic presidential front-runner Bernie Sanders has railed against billionaires and their influence on politics for years. On Wednesday in Las Vegas, he will face off on the debate stage against one of the world's richest men, the rapidly rising Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg makes his debut on the debate stage in Nevada, one of the four early states where he decided not to compete, after spending a stunning $419 million on television ads, which has helped him to meet the polling criteria set by the Democratic National Committee. The other candidates telegraphed Wednesday that the former New York mayor's record on everything from policing techniques to his past party affiliation will be a central focus at the NBC debate on Wednesday at the Paris Theater in Las Vegas. Bloomberg leapfrogged former Vice...

Trump's pardon spree deepens crisis gripping American justice Analysis by Stephen Collinson, CNN Updated 2 hours ago Feb 19, 2020 (CNN) - President Donald Trump just appointed himself America's judge and jury, casting even deeper doubts on whether the nation's impartial justice system can withstand his expanding political assault. "I'm actually, I guess, the chief law enforcement officer of the country," Trump said Tuesday, after setting off alarm bells with a flurry of pardons and commutations. Though the President is the head of the executive branch, America's real chief law enforcement official is William Barr and there are dramatic signs that even the loyal attorney general is beginning to feel the strain of the last week's legal tumult. CNN's Kaitlan Collins reported Tuesday night that Barr had considered resigning over Trump's interference in his department, including the President's tweets that he said last week made it imp...

Chinese CDC study finds Covid-19 virus to be more contagious than SARS or MERS By James Griffiths and Nectar Gan, CNN Updated 2 hours ago Feb 19, 2020 Hong Kong (CNN) - A comprehensive study of more than 72,000 confirmed and suspected cases of the novel coronavirus by Chinese scientists has revealed new information about the deadly infection which has brought much of the country to a halt. Carried out by a group of experts at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and published in the Chinese Journal of Epidemiology on Monday, the study is the largest and most comprehensive examination of coronavirus cases so far. It found that the novel coronavirus is more contagious than the related viruses which cause SARS and MERS. While the resulting disease, Covid-19, is not as fatal on a case-by-case basis, its greater spread has already led to more deaths than its related coronaviruses. The new study examined data from 72,314 patients, 44,672 of which were confirme...

Beijing expels three Wall Street Journal journalists By Ben Westcott and Steven Jiang, CNN Updated Feb 19, 2020 Hong Kong (CNN Business) - The Chinese government announced Wednesday that it would revoke the press credentials of three Wall Street Journal reporters, the largest such expulsion of overseas media from the country in recent years. Speaking at a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said the expulsion was due to an opinion piece published by the US news organization on February 3, entitled "China is the real sick man of Asia." "The editors used such a racially discriminatory title, triggering indignation and condemnation among the Chinese people and the international community," Geng said. "Regrettably, what the WSJ has done so far is nothing but parrying and dodging its responsibility. It has neither issued an official apology nor informed us of what it plans to do with the persons involved. ... As such, it is deci...
